UV Adhesives
UV curable adhesives are one of the largest application fields of UV technology.
There are three different types of UV adhesives:
- UV pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA)
- Constructive UV adhesives
- UV laminating adhesives.
In terms of the volume of adhesive, UV PSAs is the largest group of the adhesives listed above, followed by constructive adhesives and laminating adhesives.
There are also three different curing mechanisms in UV adhesives:
- free radical UV systems
- cationic UV systems
- dual cure systems (2 curing mechanisms in one system)
When laminating two substrates with UV curable adhesives you have to guarantee that at least one of the substrates is transparent to UV radiation! Otherwise there will be no complete bond between the substrates!!
When laminating two substrates which are not UV-transparent you can use the so-called “dual cure” UV adhesives for curing.
